Learn by play:

Since report cards have come out I wanted to show activities that help us achieve our standards. The following pictures are activities from this week and the standards they cover.

The student will Draw with some detail and demonstrate understanding that writing and/or drawings represent ideas by creating Mat Man and then drawing him on paper.

Daily survey question: Answer simple questions, rote counting, and demonstrate active listening.

Answer questions/test predictions w/ simple experiments

Building with blocks: Create representations of familiar places with various materials

Playing with play dough: Create representations of familiar places with various materials and building those fine motor skills to help with writing.

Coloring a picture and writing your name: Use materials purposefully & respectfully, hold pencil/crayon between thumb & first two fingers, and reproduce some letters with writing utensils

Playing in the house center: Play with different friends each day and collaborate with 2-3 peers to carry out a play theme.

Playing with legos:  Take turns (using things, sharing, expressing self or getting own way), and engage in pretend play (play house, build firehouse with blocks)


Letter identification

Putting pumpkins in order from biggest to smallest: demonstrate an understanding of directionality (up/down before/after first/last)

Knowing vocabulary


Recognize their first name and name some letters in their first name


Hold pencil/crayon between thumb & first two fingers and reproduce some letters with writing utensils.


Grasp scissors with thumb on top and use scissors correctly to cut simple shape.
